Description: This course is designed for those who are interested in looking after their 4WD, AWD and 2WD vehicle but have no prior knowledge of basic mechanics. If you ever wanted to know how to service your own vehicle or be able to make emergency repairs in remote situations, then this course is for you.

This course will give you an understanding of the mechanical principles employed in modern vehicles and allow you to practice basic servicing techniques so you are better equipped to   maintain your vehicle in sound condition, find faults easily and effect emergency repairs.

No special equipment is needed to enrol in this course. However, if your vehicle is due for a service then you may wish to carry out that service on the day under supervision.  Bring oil,   filters and your tools, if you have a set, or you are able to use our equipment!  You will however have to dispose of your own waste oil.

What can I learn?

Major 4WD, AWD and 2WD Components (their layout, identification and purpose);
Mechanical Principles of the IC Engine (How engines work);
Fault Finding (How to get an engine going again);
Routine and Preventative Maintenance (How to service your car and prevent
problems arising—includes changing tyres); and
Emergency repairs in the bush (What to do when you are miles from nowhere) and using available equipment.

What happens on the day?

Times:        8.00am to 2.00pm approx

Approximately two hours of theory in the morning - the rest of the day is practical “hands on”.

Do I need any special equipment?

If your vehicle is due for a service then you may wish to carry out that service on the day.  Bring oil, filters and your tools (if you have a set) or you are able to use our equipment. You will be responsible to dispose of your own oil waste.
